In 1989, in an effort to reduce the impact of CFC gases on the environment, and to comply with the terms of the Montreal Protocol, governments of most countries passed laws to ban the import or manufacture of CFC's. However, it has been found that many blends of refrigerant gases originally designed to replace CFC's have a high Global Warming Potential (GWP), and, as such, have now been identified as in need of urgent replacement by more environmentally friendly alternatives. In the early 1990's, the environmental action group Greenpeace launched a large-scale public relations campaign designed to create consumer awareness and convince industry to accept the reality of CFC-free Greenfreeze technology. |
